We are pleased to announce a change in our previous "Tri-Awards" Scholarship Awards Program.  The Tri-Awards found it's name in 1994 as a result of the combination of existing Music, Art and Scholastic Achievement scholarships that were being conducted by three separate committees.  In combining the efforts of these established awards, The Monday Club was able to more efficiently manage these three awards.

As a result of recent research into our own history, as well as the present scholarship opportunities in San Luis Obispo County, the Club voted to focus our awards in Music and Art only.  These areas are significantly  underrepresented in scholarship funds available and we believe we will have more of an impact by focusing our available funds on these two areas.

Application information, forms and dates will be posted soon.  Keep checking back for more information!

Back to School brings with it an opportunity for our Monday Club members to help with our commitment to the Raising A Reader Program in our county. The RAR committee would like to thank all the volunteers who have stepped up and will be in contact with you soon.

Last May was an exciting time for the school sites that we serve. Graduation Programs were planned and attended by students and their parents. At the Child Development Resource Center in San Luis Obispo (CDRC) smiles were everywhere. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to present the 2 wooden red wagons that were on the center’s wish list. Gini Griffin hand lettered and touched up the wagons to personalize them from our Club. The students were presented with a lovely certificate and their own book bags. After the graduation ceremonies pizza and strawberries were enjoyed by the families. The local librarian also attended and helped the families and children to sign up for their own library card.

Throughout the summer several of our members continued reading to the students both in English and Spanish. We are looking forward to our second year of interaction with our sites. We would love you to join us. The ways you can volunteer include reading weekly to students, taking book inventory, cleaning bags, or helping with the very special end of the year graduation party.  We realize that volunteering for this program can require a consistent time commitment as the little ones depend and count on us. Because of this we are compiling a substitution list for the various sites as well. We will also be working on a fundraiser at the SLO Little Theater to be held on November 6th. We are hoping to raise monies to aid the RAR program with ongoing expenses. More details will be coming. Please don’t hesitate to email or call me with questions. We would be happy to have you as a RAR volunteer!

My best, Cyndi Runstrom, RAR Coordinator

Thank you for checking in and please keep posted to this Blog!

The Monday Club (TMC) Tri-Awards Committee, led by Committee Chair Lisa Fraser, has been meeting over the summer, working to clarify the goals of the awards we give each year.  Several members have gathered at the Cal Poly Library Archives, using TMC archives stored in their valuable safekeeping to research the history of the awards, originally just the Music Scholarship Competition.  The photos and information we have discovered is truly enlightening and we look forward to sharing in the Fall.

Have a wonderful summer and we will see you in September!
